Convey Definitions for Land Surveyors

convey—To pass or transmit the title to property from one to another; to transfer property or the title to property by deed or instrument under seal. The term applies to the disposition of real property, not of personal property. To convey real estate, by an appropriate instrument, is to transfer the legal title to it from the present owner to another.

conveyance—A written instrument which passes an interest in real property from one person to another—a deed, mortgage, or lease, but not a will.

conveyance, mesne—A title, in the chain of title, located somewhere between the original conveyance and the present title holder; not the original or present title but an intermediate conveyance.
