Rectification Definitions for Land Surveyors

rectification, differential—The process of removing the effects of tilt, relief, scale variation, and other distortions from photography by considering the picture as being made up of many small portions and correcting each portion independently.

rectification, digital—Rectification using a computer image as an intermediary between the original photograph and the rectified image, correcting not only for non-verticality of the photograph but also, in suitable cases, for relief-caused displacement. See also transformation.
