metes and bounds—A method of describing land by measure of length (metes) of the boundary lines (bounds). The most common method is to state the direction and length of each line while walking around the perimeter. In general, metes and bounds can be established by reference to a record of natural or artificial monuments at the corners, or to a record of natural or cultural boundary lines. See also description, metes and bounds.
